Magic the Service Dog in Training
Helen is a new Maine puppy raiser. MAGIC came from Karen Wiedmann,
a Lab breeder from Delaware...the Lions club paid her air fare to
fly here to Maine.....
"As I type a little bundle of joy is dreaming at my feet. She
is doing what seems like suckling as she dreams happily of her mother.
Magic has surprised me today with house training, only one accident.
She had her picture taken with Santa last night. She slept through
most of the 2-hour wait. I may be prejudiced, but I think she got
the most " Ohhhhhhhhh isn't she cute comments" and "can
I pet her" as well as "She is soooo soft". I had
to say No Way to the "can I take her home with me" comments.
Magic has slept through the supermarket as well. She has been exposed
to a lot of places these past few days so I opted to give her the
day off today and she happily stayed home and rested.
Our first snow storm and she loved romping along with my son and
our three dogs to which she took on as instant friends Friday night.
I took it slow and released them one at a time for the get to meet
our new friend time. She nips at them and they take it in stride.
Mealtime was tricky. Magic wants their food, of course, even though
I have them all sit and wait and eat together. She is a bundle of
love wrapped in curiosity (my x-mass tree had to have all low ornaments
removed).
My daughter is making a collage of all the pictures. She is five
and is our resident animal lover. She is probably the reason our
pet family has grown so in the past year. We have two cat's and
April's surprise is a nine-week kitten she has grown fondly of at
one of our friends house; three birds, and of course the three dogs,
two of which are as playful as pups even though they are five and
seven yrs. old. The birds and two dogs have all become a wonderful
part of our family only this year. I think it is the reason for
the lack of jealousy when Magic came to us. You probably think I
am nuts for such a house full. We fostered two litters of kittens
from the local rescue league this past spring, so one puppy is a
welcome change of pace. Good thing I have a big house big yard and
two wonderful kids to share the love as well as the responsibility.
My husband takes some time to warm up, but I find him playing with
the animals when he thinks I'm not looking. He's a great sport .
He is the only companion to come to Santa pictures and kept our
place in line as we all chatted and lost track of place and time.
Magic couldn't have come to a more loving home for a start of a
most purposeful life. Your heart is of great size to be able to
see the future for Magic and set your faith in others to make it
wonderful for her.
Happy Holidays,
Helen King and family
