Jackie Marcoux & Chantey
Hello, my name is Jackie Marcoux and I am a senior at the University of Hartford looking to pursue a career in either student affairs in higher education or theater. I was diagnosed at 4 and a half years old with a moderate to severe bilateral sensorineural hearing loss and have been wearing two hearing aids ever since. In the past few years my hearing has begun to fluctuate. On those days I wake up being unable to hear anything except for loud noises. Therefore, I made the decision to acquire a service dog. This is especially important because the fluctuations are becoming a more regular occurrence.
I am living on my own for the first time and my independence was being challenged. I have trouble pinpointing where sounds are coming from, such as cars on campus or someone calling out my name. My inability to hear these sounds could have placed me in a dangerous situation. I also struggle to hear people knocking on my door or my phone ringing. Thankfully, I was matched with Chantey and she has helped me overcome these difficulties. I will no longer have to worry about missing a phone call or someone knocking on my door in the future. She is able to alert me to these important sounds so that I can be the best professional possible.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my profile. I would greatly appreciate any support you can provide.
