Kathleen Fortier Grafton, Massachusetts Born deaf, Kathleen would like a hearing dog to alert her to sounds she would otherwise not hear. I was born deaf due to Rubella. Grew up in a mainstreamed environment. I am able to adapt well in the society but more and more I am realizing how important my life would be to have a hearing dog to assist me in my daily activities. I do hear with the assistance of a hearing aid but sometimes I miss out on the important things happening. I do know sign language but I use my voice more than signing. I was raised as an oral Deaf and learned sign language later in my life.
